"I started dyeing my own fabric in a 5-day workshop in July 2015 taught by Elaine Quehl at the Haliburton School of Art & Design. In early 2016 I found Susan Purney Mark on-line and took her course 'Print It, Print It'. I followed that with her 'Shifting into Neutral' course then the Soy Wax & Beyond Online Workshop in July 2016.
I’ve been a sewer all my life but have never had so much fun as I do now that I am dyeing and putting design onto my own fabrics.
My featured piece (above) is 23” x 18” and I call it “Exuberance”. I was taught the design technique in a class called Creative Design in Patchwork by Bethany Garner at Quilt Canada in June 2016. Up until then I’d been so in awe of how lovely some of the hand-dyes were that I was afraid to cut into them!
Recently I’ve become very interested in using Photoshop and Lightroom to manipulate my own photos and then print them onto fabric.
I love the work done by Wen Redmond and was inspired by some of her beautiful pieces. I have on image that I’m currently playing around with which I’ve called “Psychedelic Skies” (image right). I’m not sure quite how this is going to turn out as it’s very much a new work in progress. I am also very interested in mixed media work and plan to explore more in that area in the future."
