Creating fanciful and themed dolls takes a center stage in this workshop which is focused on doll clothing and accessories. Loads of doll examples and tips and techniques to modify doll patterns as well as draping directly o the doll’s body. We work with one doll and clothe here three different ways, creating very different looking dolls in the process. Strongly recommended as the follow-on workshop to Cloth Doll Making.
Working with the pattern we used in Cloth Doll Making (included here as well), we move beyond the doll's body and explore a variety of new techniques and new ways of making faces. We do a lot of work with fabric for clothing and accessories, learning how to use patterns 'off the doll' as well as using fabrics to drape 'on the doll' directly achieving some wonderful results. Let's have a look at what's included 'doll by doll':
There are several workshops available here for doll makers and quilting artists by Patti Culea. This first and ‘foundation’ workshop is Cloth Doll Making which has been designed to answer a lot of the questions Patti gets in her workshops and from people who have bought her books and patterns. There is a bit of face making here as well, enough to become a master at it, however Patti greatly expands on the art of making doll’s faces in the workshop Making Faces so if you enjoy making doll faces and want to learn more, consider taking that workshop as well.
In Cloth Doll Inspirations we assume that you have learned how to make the doll’s body and all of the elements that go with that, and focus on learning how to customize doll patterns as well as make some patterns of your own. More advanced techniques such as direct draping on the doll's body as well as beadwork is covered as we get into the dressing up of the doll according to several themes.
Each workshop can be taken on their own but ideally you want to start with Cloth Doll Making first; it provides the foundation that will ensure your enjoyment as you proceed through the series.
